HELLISH feels like a very different, more concise release, a much heavier D beat crust punk has replaced the more melodic hardcore of their previous effort, yet still retains moments of melancholy melody reminiscent of HIS HERO IS GONE. HELLISH features spoken word specifically recorded for this EP by Social Psychologist Melanie Joy, who coined the concept of Carnism, from which the band takes its name, The 10inch comes on clear and black 10" vinyl with printed inner sleeves.

Far away from all the mish mash, not the slightest bit stale, but fresh powerfull and with unrestrained anger they thrash their way through their set. Awesome band and wonderfull record!

Zehn absolut schwarz-düstere Tracks die nahtlos an das Vorgängeralbum "Orogeny" anschliessen - nur noch negativer, dunkler und verstörender! Wer also sein Nische bei His Hero Is Gone, Devoid of Faith, Alpinist oder ähnlichen Bands gefunden hat sollte mal ein Ohr riskieren. 

Denmarks HEXIS come along with the new release. Five Doom/Blackmetal inspired songs pressed on a lovely 10" with an extraordinary cover: Heavy Gatefold-Cardboard with UV Spot + CD. Vinylcolour is clear.

Hexis and Primitive Man both have recent triumphs under their belt. Hexis finally released their first fullclength Abalam in January while Primitive Man were signed by Relapse Records and had their malicious debut record Scorn re-released, and unleashed on a new unsuspecting audience. Both bands share a certain sonic kinship, but broadly speaking, these are two quite different bands, each with their own unique flair, which is what makes this short split all the more compelling. Hexis are occupied with straddling a line between visceral hardcore and unforgiving black metal. Primitive Man are misanthropy defined with blood curdling sludge and doom. The common ground that these bands trample on is the same conviction and passion, and they each get this across with just one track each on this 10”. With their eight minute dirge, ‘Excrucio’, Hexis trod familiar ground. This feels like it didn’t quite make the cut for Abalam but has been given a new lease of life and reason on this split. It’s a slightly more broody number compared to their searing avalanches of BM-meets-hardcore that we’re used to and does more to craft unnerving atmosphere than anything else. Primitive Man really steal the show on this 10”, though. Their track ‘When Getting High Is Not Enough’ tells you straight away what the band’s attitude is all about but the track itself is anything but laidback with fierce unforgiving rasps of bitter sludge that picks up where Scorn left off. First things are eerily calm and trudging but anyone familiar with Primitive Man will know not to be fooled by such a display as ghostly guitars soon twist and contort into vile towers of sludge complemented by roaring drums. This is Primitive Man mastering their craft once again. 

LICH. from the UK contain members of our beloved BATTLE OF WOLF and if BOW359 are not ugly enough - this is their ugly mean baby. Lich. deliver four mean brutal dirty intense songs that just kill it. They have been one of the most intense live bands I have seen in a long time. Those songs are fuckin brutal. MAN HANDS are also from the UK. When I first heard them I thought they sent me a DEVOLA master. Those 7 songs of classical power violence are over before you even realized what was happening. Reminds me a lot of 90ies emo power violence like devola meets three studies for a crucifixion. In your face  

Locktender from CLEVELAND, OH contain / reformed out of the ashes from “Men As Trees”. On this split 10"; is one epic long heavy brutal hardcore song that expands over 10 minutes and just leave your ears bleeding and your mouth will be white open of disbelieve. Brighter Arrows from Chesterton, IN/Chicago, IL just continue the tradition of midwestern mid 90ies emo w/ beautiful melodies, passionate lyrics and a lot of goosebumps. It reminds me a lot on bands like The Pine, Casket Lottery and a little bit of Mineral. Just beautiful. Two awesome songs. They also just released a a great 6 song ep The Ghost is Clear Records and Fair Weather Records. The 10"; comes in a beautiful inside / out printed 10"; sleeve designed by Benny Druckwelle

USA-IMPORT!!! A unique and strange blend of hardcore punk, d-beat, and sludge to really smash with your ears. The drumming patterns will have you instantly honed in and bobbing your head. Having backgrounds in both previous sludge and hardcore bands, this is nothing to Negative Standards. This is one solid release right after their 2009 demo. For a 15 minute release, this one fucking EP to beat. I wonder what these guys are going to do next. Who knows? Maybe a 2011 full length this year?! I hope so!

LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!!! Northless is a four piece band from Milwaulkee, Wisconsin who formed in 2007. Northless plays an amazing of music that incorporates elements of post metal, doom metal, and sludge within their sound. The band cites bands such as Neurosis, Khanate, Bloodlet, His Hero Is Gone, Will Haven, King Crimson, Breadwinner, Coalesce, Gorguts, Swans, Godflesh, Eyehategod, Crowbar, Soilent Green, and Drudkh as influences. To date, Northless have released a self titled demo in 2008, a split 7" with Protestant in 2009, a 12" entitled No Quarter For The Damaged in 2009, a six song cassette entitled Leaving The Wolves in 2010, contributed a song for the Inherent Records Vol. 1 compilation, an eight song LP entitled Clandestine Abuse in 2011, and a split LP with London, UK's Lightbearer in 2012. Northless is gearing up to release their next release entitled Valley Of Lead, a three song 10" that's set to be released via Halo Of Flies in November. The Packaging for the 10" is a spectacle in it's own right and features a branded pine vault and is limited to 300 copies on green vinyl. Overall, I've been a fan of Northless since their split with Protestant in 2009 and have enjoyed watching this band evolve to the point where they've become amazing musicians and their releases will definitely appeal to fans of bands such as Thou, Black September, and Lightbearer. These three songs feature downtuned, glacially heavy, sludge filled riffing, mammoth drumming, harsh/strained vocals, and wall of noise basslines. Highly recommended! Enjoy! I apologize in advance for the sound quality. Halo Of Flies sent me an mp3 version that's low in sound and possibly unmastered. This will still tide you over until a better version is released on the web. 

With six years of existence under the belt, RED APOLLO undoubtedly belong to the established bands among those who identify themselves with post-metal, sludge, doom and everything in-between. After a successful tour with Savannah's BLACK TUSK (Relapse Records) in October 2016, RED APOLLO are now finally back in the rehearsal room to write the successor to the 2015 full-length "Altruist". However, RED APOLLO will not completely disappear off the radar for the next twelve months but decided to drop another release right in time for the upcoming tour with Japan's HEAVEN IN HER ARMS in July 2017! Marking the latest output in the band's critically acclaimed catalogue consisting of a demo, two LPs and three 7inches, "Meta" consists of two songs formerly released on "Altruist". Nevertheless, RED APOLLO are not just about to release the exact material as two years before but put these tunes into a completely new shape! The most obvious difference to the original versions of "The Slaving Eyes" and "Dissociative" is that both songs will be released without any vocals on "Meta". Instead, synthesizers and further guitars were added while instruments were partly re-recorded and everything was completely re-mixed and re-mastered. This unique composition is due to the professional work of the Tonmeisterei in Oldenburg (Germany), Sludge Studios in Tampa (Florida) and Level3Entertainment in Essen (Germany) where the different parts for "Meta" have been recorded, mixed and mastered. With these drastic modifications, "Meta" sounds different and new with the best sound possible!

The USA-based progressive doom soloist Hallowed Butchery teams up with the French funeral doom soloist The Austrasian Goat for a monumental collaborative split 10" based upon the moral stance of self-reliance, popularized and preached by the Transcendentalist movement of the 19th-century. In a world of consumerism, conformity, religious-brainwashing, and political bullshit, these two musical geniuses refuse to merely follow the pack. This is reflected in both their lyrical content, and in their approach to their music, which is performed in solitude, and which often defies categorization. The Austrasian Goat begins the split with two songs of dark, minimalistic, funeral doom reminiscent of Ahab, Celestiial, and Nortt, but with an approach all his own. On the second of the two dirges, Ryan Fairfield of Hallowed Butchery makes a guest appearance. Side two features one epic song from Hallowed Butchery. His song is different from anything he has done in the past – reminiscent of Hawkwind-on-a-bad-acid-trip with Black Sabbath chugging cough syrup, while My Bloody Valentine snorts a mishmash of pills. The song features guest appearances from Julien Louvet of The Austrasian Goat and Brad Bolduc of Terrible Old Man. In a nutshell, "Songs of Self-Reliance and Solitude" is music for the forward-thinking, the individualist, the anarchist, the artist, and the metal-head in us all. 

2nd release of this Hamburg noise merchants. A huge cloud of complex riffs, interlocking drumming and steady basslines. Just flawless and amazingly brutal hardcore.
