The Tijuana, MX band’s crust melódico is stronger and more intricately written than it’s ever been on their third LP and sixth official release, "Mil Orquídeas En Medio Del Desierto" (A Thousand Orchids in the Middle of the Desert). Following their 2015 debut "Insania" and 2020’s "Ningún Muro Consiguió Jamás Contener La Primavera", Habak’s "Mil Orquídeas En Medio Del Desierto" expounds on a sound whose influence feels equal parts influenced by d-beat creators Discharge and atmospheric post-hardcore legends Envy. Such a sound could only be born of the worldwide underground, of the global anti-capitalist movement that DIY has become. It is fitting then, that their latest album be a work created entirely by the band themselves, with production, mixing, and mastering by Habak drummer Patrick Alexander at Cacho Studio in Tijuana in the fall of 2024. Habak is at the point of dynamic mastery. Nothing is done without intention, every upbeat part is prefaced. Nothing fast happens without introduction, and certainly not by a hastily added drum fill. Habak are too sophisticated for that, especially for a band combining two genres both not exactly known for such discernment and poise. Likened to early 2000’s Spanish emocrust, Habak’s playing from guitarists Juan and Eduardo is as gorgeous as ever, but the songwriting accentuates the beauty of such melodies in a way still unachieved by many of their peers. Rounded out by bassist Alejandro and vocalist Alex, the band forms like a diamond with perfect clarity, shining with a beauty that only an ensemble refined by over a decade of pressure could.

ex. TOTEM SKIN!!! Dödsrit is a project created by Christoffer Öster from TOTEM SKIN. Dödsrit tries to blend atmospheric black metal with the rawness from crust. The writing for Dödsrit started right after Totem Skin had recorded their last album "Weltschmerz" . And was conducted for almost two years before it saw the light of the day. Dödsritt shivering melodies were created in the deep forests in the outskirts of Borlänge, Sweden. Conducted by Christoffer Öster from Totem Skin who poured every drop of passion he could harvest from the bottom of his heart. "this same titeled LP is the band’s 1st full-length. The soundscape of the album ranges from raw aggression to doomy heaviness and unsettling guitar melodies. The vocals create an honest and desperate atmosphere, the vocalists screaming themes of nature and problems in life. Intense grinding shares space with quiet and reverent moments, but the sonic landscape is always filled with emotion.

This release is a collaboration between the Portland/Olympia based DarkFolk band Vradiazei and the spread all over Europe music collective Las Casas Viejas. The whole record is chracterized by mostly unplugged instruments, quiet and intimate sounds creating a mystical experience. Las Casas Viejas: We´d like to share two songs „Während des Tages“ and „...... und während der Nacht“ (During the day ...... and during the night) on this Split Record. These two songs are connected musically and in content, telling the story of experiencing a period of 24 hours using various instruments such as: organ, a microtonal tuned piano played with eight electro magnets, e-bows, percussion, micro tonal tuned hammered dulcimer and xyleophone next to guitars, bass drums and vocals. „Während desTages“ was recorded live at a friends house in the Austrian Alps, „...und während der Nacht“ was recorded a couple of weeks later at East End Studio in Berlin. Vradiazei: The tracks we are sharing on this release form a bridge from our earlier work to the present. Falling Water was recorded in a living room in 2013 in Olympia while Christine and Lilia were still fully in the band. It is the last song we wrote with that lineup and is previously unreleased. In 2016 we became a two piece and Ximeronei and Nychtonei emerged as our first compositions while we adjusted to our new configuration. We recorded these during winter 2019 in Olympia at a recording studio called the Owl Lodge. They can be considered two movements of the same piece, with Ximeronei representing new beginnings and Nychtonei, the inevitable end.
